So I've found one disadvantage to my small-o'-the-back ITP carry of my small Bersa Thunder 9. This particular cloth holster (I just got it) makes it nearly impossible to draw without some coaxing. Perhaps a leather one would be better.

Wed, August 27, 2008 - 11:29 PMSOB holsters are called that for a reason. It's a double-acronym.
Let me know how much 'coaxing' you need in order to draw that thing while sitting in a car or at a restaurant.
Cloth can be snaggy. especially with the lip of the seam where they hem it with the extra reinforcing 'edge' which is very prone to snagging ESPECIALLY those 'uncle mike' things with the padded interior... it's like a mesh? not sure what kind of cloth they use for a liner but it's about the most snag-prone stuff I ever saw. Leather has the advantage of not needing a 'lip' at the edge, and not being so squishy to fill in and snag on every bump of your sights and other 'horns' that may exist, and can be very smooth to draw from.
I hear a properly made Kydex holster can be just as comfortable. I don't think there is a faster drawing material than the teflon-like inner surface of a properly made Kydex holster. I doubt I'd ever own one, but I know people who love them.
I go IWB strong side in the summer, and in the winters here, which warrant a jacket enough that you can wear one all day, I go with shoulder holster. Despite what people say, I find shoulder carry to be comfortable and one of the more accessible positions, especially while seated, and is most easily concealed, provided you are sure that you will not be taking your coat off.

Re: it doesn't draw easily
Sat, August 30, 2008 - 8:04 PMMy S&W Sigma gun comes out of its SOB just fine. It's the design of the slide which makes it resistant to sliding out of the holster. I'm gonna try a small leather one. -

Tue, September 9, 2008 - 4:50 PMDang man, a Stigma AND a Bersa. You need to go gun shopping :)
Like ATGI, I have never likes SOB holsters. Strongside IWB or duty belt are my preferred method. After that I prefer pocket carry.
Unless you use one of those sideways SOB holsters, the gun will print more when you bend over than strong side carry. -

Well, my other guns are an H&K USP, a Sig 226, and a Mossberg.
I think the NEXT addition will be either a Baby Eagle or a Sig 229. -

Re: it doesn't draw easily
Thu, September 11, 2008 - 7:51 PMYou know, I do want a Ruger Revolver. I keep looking for a GP-100 with a 6" barrel, full-lug, but haven't yet found locally, yet. Then again, I'm not looking that hard for it. -

Re: it doesn't draw easily
Thu, September 11, 2008 - 7:55 PMThere are at least four of the six-inch GP100's between the two gun shops that are within a five minute drive of my house. Stainless or blued?
My next gun purchase looks like it's gonna be a stainless ladysmith internal hammer .38 for my wife. She's all hot on them lately and I'll jump at the opportunity to nurture her gun enthusiasm.

Re: it doesn't draw easily
Thu, September 11, 2008 - 8:05 PMI think I'd swap out the Bersa before the holster. Never been a big fan of the brand. Trade it and get a Tomcat stoked with Winchester Silvertips. -

Re: it doesn't draw easily
Thu, September 11, 2008 - 8:11 PMI'd do that, except I swore to myself I'd stick with 9mms.
And BTW, Thousand. Stainless.
