I can still get mosins for $90 around here. SKS is $180-190.

I'd like to get one of each, but on the other hand, I like my cowboy guns. When I save up enough for a gun that I want, it's hard to chop a third of my hard earned gun money for a gun that I just 'sorta' would like to have 'one day'.... and I'll probably regret it one day, when mosins are three times their cost, and the cowboy guns I want are still pretty much the same price as they've always been.

After a lot of consideration and analysis, I decided I would be a lot happier if I was filthy stinking rich.

I would have to expand what Greg said to include AKs and Dragunovs. They are priced to move, but the market cannot last forever. Remember all those Turkish Mausers flooding the market for years. Good luck finding any of them now.

Buy Hungarian Mosin Nagants, Romanian AKs, Yugoslav SKSs, and Polish Dragunovs. They are not the most accurate rifles in the world, but they go bang every time you pull the trigger.

The cowboy gun market has been solid for years. The Italians really go crazy for all that old west stuff. Uberti, Pedersoli, these guys are pumping out the replicas. Get some black powder weapons too. They are fun to shoot, and are truly the ultimate EOW weapon.

Yeah, I figure I gotta get a flintlock pistol and long gun combo. I used to shoot them frequently when I was a teenager. They're really fun. And can often be found pretty cheap compared to other guns.

Do you need to jump all the FFL and background hoops for a BP flintlock? Seems to me their design should fall into the 'exempt' category.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread.

        Go Mosins!!!

yep their exempt in most states as they are not considered a firearm, also guns made b4 1898 are not considered firearms but antiques

In my book, the survivalist was the armorer for his local militia and had cases of Mosins in crates in his basement. The survivors use them to defend themselves against a band of criminal bikers. That 7.62x54 is a thumper. The guns are rough and crude, but the top all-time snipers all shot Mosins. Top 5 I think. Top 5 women too I think.

Top sniper we covered in the Scout rifles topic, and yes he used the finnish version of the Mosin nagant carbine, which is one of my favorite rifles, and like your armorer I have "a few" mosins and "some " ammo, I got 6 kids, so in case of a eow scenario I need to plan for generations

I'd like to grab a few more of those Yugo SKSs coming in, specifically the one with the heavy 4 sided compensators (rather than the grenade launcher flash hider.) The comped versions just lay there when you shoot them, no recoil to speak of. The bottom set of holes in the comp does throw up some dirt when shooting prone, but they remind me a lot of a light Garand. Much better than any of the other SKSs imported in the past.
