I have been hearing alot about people starting to stock pile weapons and ammo because of the way america's politics are bearing down on gun owners. How many of you are stockpiling and does anyone think it wont be a problem? I have also hear that prices on guns and ammo are taking a 15-20% increase as of the first of the month has anyone else heard this?

Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Fri, July 27, 2007 - 7:13 PMIt is true. The most likely winner of the next election will either be Hillary (the white witch) or Obama (the white man) and they both have expressed a gun-control mindset. Back in the day, Hillary and Bill would have Sarah and Jim Brady over to the house regularly.
What you can expect is reinstatement of the assault weapon ban, so buy an AK or 2. Hi cap magazines may come under fire as well, although I expect something along the lines of a new improved Brady bill, kinda like a brady bill merged with the mysterious no-fly list.
They won't be able to fully ban all guns, just certain types. Possibly they'll get smart and go after ammo since it's not constitutionally protected. At minimum, expect the ATF to turn into a menace again. -

Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Sat, July 28, 2007 - 2:06 PMIt oscilates back and forth. 8 years of Clinton, 8 years of W, and so on. The problem for us gun owners is that rarely are the gun laws enacted during liberal regimes rolled back. The Crime Bill was one of the very few exceptions. Mostly all we have to look forward is a halt on new legislation for a few years.
When you vote (for president), you have to keep in mind the kind of values a candidate has because that will tell you a lot about the judges they will appoint <for life> to everything from appellate to circuit to supreme court. These are the long term influences of a president. The war will be over in a year or two, the French will still hate us, and oil will still keep going up in price.

Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Tue, July 31, 2007 - 8:11 PMEbay is doing this for public relations. I sincerely doubt that banning the sale of brass or other gun parts is going to prevent killings. After all guns and receivers still can't be sold with a background check.

Maybe or maybe not. Have you noticed that most Democrats have been pretty quiet about being anti-gun? They've realized that when that try to ban guns they lose votes. Kerry did publicity shots of himself hunting. There are even some pro-gun Democrat politicians out there. -

Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Sat, August 4, 2007 - 9:05 PMDuring the election they'll be mum. They have learned that they lost the last 2 elections by inciting the swing vote gun owners. Gun owners have one of the highest consistent voting rates. Ask a die hard gun owner if they voted and 99% will say yes.
Hillary will likely be the next president, but her stance on gun control is already a matter of record. During the first term, a Dem will be halfhearted gun control, lotta behind the scenes stuff or capitalizing on the next virginia tech shooting, but in their second term, when they have nothing to lose. -

Tue, August 28, 2007 - 8:45 PMI just wish this war was over so ammo prices would go back down. Fuckin 7.62 is almost up to regular ammo prices. -

Wed, August 29, 2007 - 8:54 AMThe war is only part of the problem. China's industrial expansion is driving up the price of copper, brass, nickel, steel and lead.

Wed, August 29, 2007 - 8:55 AMHey....they took guns away from the people in Japan, England, and Australia -all islands... The U.N. will always be pushing for the US government to disarm it's people....but as long as we share a border with mexico, guns will be available in whatever type you could want!

Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Wed, August 29, 2007 - 3:22 PMI just sold 3K rounds of SKS ammo. The prices are going up becaused of the war, but even with the democrats in charge I don't think ammo will be a problem, but guns themselves are another matter. I think everyone should get one now that doesn't have one, just in case. I only collect surplus type rifles, but can definitely be counted on to use one effectively if needed. -

Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Wed, August 29, 2007 - 4:57 PMI've been meaning to stock up on ammo for my own SKS. I bought 1k of 9mm recently, and the price wasn't too bad... but now with these price increases going into place, I'm almost afraid to see what 7.62 is going for. I've also been meaning to look into what the local laws are here about clip sizes...
On the topic if countries being disarmed... I can't say I'm looking forward to the introduction of the Amero. -

Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Sat, September 1, 2007 - 8:56 PMAt work I get these fist sized packets of dessicant that I reconstitute in my oven and use to store ammo long term. I need waaay more 7.62. I have a ton of reloading components, 7x57, 9mm, 45acp, & 22. In a pinch I could probably put together a few thousand rounds reloaded stuff. More if I had more bullets. I have a coffee can of primers, and about 20 lbs of powder. -
-
Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Sat, September 1, 2007 - 9:22 PMlol I like how you refer to having equipment for several thousand rounds as 'a pinch'... If only I had reloading equipment AT ALL..... the local army surplus store here seems to be the only place on earth who isn't yet aware that ammo purchase is the new reason for a home-equity loan. They sell milsurp by the case and can for prices I haven't seen anywhere else for at least three years.
Being a relatively young-pup..and also very new to the gun interest.... I wasn't involved or affected at all by the big gun-bans in the 90's, but I get the gist that there were a heck of a lot of guns that you couldn't buy anymore, but people talk of 'pre-ban' and I get the impression that if you already own something, and they pass laws against it, you can still keep it but not buy new ones. What are the chances of laws being enacted that would require you to turn in a registered gun that you already own, if it is illegal for some reason? -
-
Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Sat, September 1, 2007 - 9:56 PMUsually they are grandfathered. Sometimes you have to register it, like SBRs or full autos brought home from WWII, but usually it gets grandfathered. -
-
Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Sun, September 2, 2007 - 12:11 PMsorry...pretend I'm not familiar with the term 'gandfathered'....
um...what? -
-
Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Sun, September 2, 2007 - 1:27 PMGrandfathered means you are not bound by new laws if you were within compliace prior to the law. IE: If a particular gun is banned, you get to keep yours if you owned it before the ban. -
-
Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Sun, September 2, 2007 - 4:01 PMoh like how my old motorcycle is street-legal without blinkers because blinkers were not requisite back at the date of it's manufacture... I get it. So the key here is to anticipate guns that may be banned, or criteria that is likely to be ban criteria, and get that all done before next election?
What do you guys, with your comparatively much more experience, project in the future would be good things to have 'grandfathered'? Does this concept apply only to the firearm, or to accessories such as pistol grips, bayonettes, high-capacity magazines, etc? I mean, can you have these installed on a weapon purchased post-ban as long as the (for example, high-cap mag) was purchased pre-ban? what if you bought both the weapon, and the accessories pre-ban...but don't keep the weapon in that configuration normally? -

Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Sun, September 2, 2007 - 9:01 PMIf your state (or the federal) government cracks down on pistol grips, owning a pre-ban gun that sports a pistol-grip won't be grandfathered in. You can keep the gun and the parts, but you'd be expected to make the gun compliant. If they crack down on the sale of AR-15s in general, and you owned one pre-ban, your ownership of said rifle would be grandfathered in. -
-
Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Sun, September 2, 2007 - 9:35 PMso guns are grandfathered, but features of a gun are not. Technically, they could say all AR15's are okay, but pistol grips and detachable magazines are not legal on semi automatic rifles...and you'd be screwed cause you'd have to make the gun compliant, which you can't do. What part of 'infringed' is not to be taken literally in the 2nd ammendment? I thought 'not to be infringed' should mean I can get whatever the hell bazooka I want! In some ways, I was happier before I cared about guns at all...but it's too late to turn back now. -

Re: Stockpile?!!?!!
Tue, September 4, 2007 - 9:01 PMI would expect an end to the flood of AK type weapons being imported at fantastic prices. Importers will then start importing parts kits (complete guns with the receiver cut in half) and then assemble them using American made receivers (which people are already doing.) However, the guns using US made receivers are more expensive.
If the gun-banners had their way they would duplicate the RPK's gun ban. The california ban is actually really well written legislation. Air tight with no loopholes. They had their shit together on that ban. Clinton't vaunted Crime bill was a useless POC. The only good thing about it was that it had an expiration date.
they always go after imports first because they can circumvent law and use dept. procedure and contort existing import laws. If there is any kind of terrorist act on American soil, expect the Gestapo..I mean Homeland security to clamp down on anything not built in the country.
