Finally, I can tell the truth: It was a ripoff. As a glock owner I have to say that until my GF won one at the Friends of NRA dinner the XD was just a lowly ripoff of the Glock. Now that there's one in the family, it is clearly a fine piece of engineering, a marvel that in all respects is nearly equal or possibly even equal to Gastons excellent design. Unless I'm in a mood to shoot my Kimber... or her new SigArms mosquito... Or, that gun over there...

I was recently in my local gun shop and was steered toward the 4" xd. I held it and fell in love. As soon as I get up the duckets I am going to take her out on the range and see if it is a match made in Heaven.

I just got a XD-40 I have only been to the range with it once but I absolutly love it Much better than the glock in my opinion. The only problem I had was that every first round out of the mag would not load all the way I think it was because of the ammo(.40SW Hollow Point Reloads) other than that it is a great home defense gun I wouldnt trade it for any other.

Before I buy a gun I like to go to a couple places that rent and ask one of the guys that cleans the rentals how the gun holds up.

I strolled into my local gunshop today just to browse. A nice .357 Ruger revolver caught my attention so I tried it out, I was ready to purchase the gun there and then. I asked the salesman what he suggested for an automatic (I have a Tauras 9mm, not too impressed with it) the salesman suggested the Springfield XD. I fell in LOVE with the .45 XD. I dropped everything and purchased the XD on the spot, now the bad part is that I have to wait until Sunday to fire my new baby, of course it's going to be until after the Bears game. GO BEARS!

I had 5 glocks and I picked up a gun magazine last year and read the article on the xd, Now i was a very avid glock fan and always told everyone they would never get me to change to any other handgun...After readuing that article on it being handgun of the yr I got all tingly inside and went out and bought an xd 40 after 2 months i had put 4 thousand plus rounds thru it without even so much as a jam a birp or any other thing....I noticed after about 2500 rounds a sudden change where it had just became even smoother shooting so i sold every glock i had and now i own a 357 sig xd a 40 xd 45 gap xd and now a new 45 acp xd just last week!!!!!! Ripoff not in the least its almost 100 to 200 dollars less than a glock depending where you buy and in my humble opinion its the best guns i have ever owned in a handgun in my life and i have had quite a few....I trust my life with springfields xd!!!!!

I work at a gun store and the springfield XD is one of the most popular selling handguns on our self. I have sold over a hundred of these guns and still havent sent one back with any problems or heard any complaints. I think its a huge improvement on the glock design almost closer to a sig. Loaded chamber and cocked indicators along with the additional rear strap safety makes it much safer and the recessed grip angle and ambi mag release makes it alot more comfortable, it fits my hand like a glove and points as naturally and my finger. I preffer the internal extracter and feel the gun ghas been beefed up with its one piece giude rail on the frame and the telescoping gide rod i would say more reliable then the glock, plus a lifetime warrenty from springfield armory is nice.

I've had the oportunity to work with several different makes of sidearms, basically I look for reliablity(using all types of ammo) and comfort. Score stands Springfield XD 2 others 0. I've had my .40 for a couple of years and recently picked up the .45 Tactical. Oh yes I do love my XD's.

About a year ago I got my first handguns. A Trail-side 22 and a XD 9. So I can't give much of an objective opinion. First Gun = First Love sort of thing. But I do love my XD.

So, is the new XD series of pistols a complete rip-off of half a dozen guns (like glock, Colt..) or is it a worthy modern innovation in weapons? It has all the gadgets that we men love.
