It was the best way to get my son interested in plinking with me. Paper targets were boring and you had to walk down range to see your results, he would quickly loose interest. But when we would blast the army men and they would flip through the air it was instant gratification and cheap, fun way to spend the day bonding with my kid. When you really want to get into bullseye mode, what kind of shooting do you do for practice? Me, I am a big fan of shooting shotgun shells (empty of course.) There are a lot of 'em on the ground. Using a 22, I'll burn up a brick in a morning of shooting. If you hit the plastic part of the shell they fly a little ways, but if you hit the brass then they fly about 30 yards. I shoot the shells from a range of 3-7 yards. You have to have a 22 you know intimately.
