I have recently found someone in my area that has the financial ability and willingness to invest in a indoor gun range and he has comissioned me to design, build and operate the facility. i have a ton of ideas on the topic but no real connections as far as where to get the equipment and or learn all the in's and outs of this business. in my area there is only one other indoor range and it is pistols only. my thought which is supported by the budget is to build a long range indoor rifle range seeing as alot of ppl like to shoot in the winter and in wisonsin can be difficult with the snow actually getting to a outdoor range. i have found other indoor rifle ranges only upto 100 yds i want to go to 200yds all under ground does anyone know if this is even doable. if anyone has any suggestions or comments please let me know he wants to break ground in the summer of 2009 and i need to get going on a plan. thanks

Re: Indoor Range
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 8:39 PM200 yards is a lot underground. You have to consider ventilation, a way to get to your targets (the classic cable runners won't work) and a deflection shield that will stand up to continual pounding by rifle cartridges (that may include steel core ammo.) Also, how do you clean out the lead every year?
Then there are the zoning ordinances...... You may want to start with the building commission first and see what they require and work from there. They probably have a list of requirements.
You could do a 100 yard range, and use small targets for simulating 200yds. The army used to use these little mini MOA targets at 50 yards for the troops to sight their weapons in for 100yds. They were silhouettes with a half MOA grid.
