You were wise to not talk in depth about CCW in front of the kids. Since it is difficult to get a CCW permit in the PRK, she may be carrying illegally. If one of those kids swings to the left (as many in CA do) they might drop dime on her. At minimum they'll tell someone else who may object to the whole CCW thing. Be careful with people you have not been to the range with.

I still don't have a problem illustrating to any child that guns are serious but acceptable business that require a great deal of responsibility. A taboo topic is no longer taboo if one can discuss it openly.

In lieu of parental support, I have no problem modeling good, responsible behavior. I'm not sure that showing someone that they can be responsible will cause that person to go off the deep end. It's not my job to raise someone's kid, but it's always my job to model good behavior, no?

Today at work, completely random, I met another female who recently had problems with mountain lions. I took an interest and try to engage her in conversation. (I have mt. lions too)

She throws in she has a 300 acre ranch just down the street. Immediately I get excited asking what she does on her ranch and if she makes money off it. Since that is my life's goal to be a true hobby farmer.

She tells me she has been really scared these past few months, I assume its the mountain lion attacks and tell her a few tips.

No, its the burnt up vehicles along the boarder of her property and the farmers that wander onto her property when she is there by herself. She doesn't live on this ranch she lives on the other side of town but she feels she is being watched by people.

She casually mentions she carries. Thats all she said, my mind wanted to know what, how, and how often. Silly I know but since I had all my young employees around I didn't think it was appropriate to dig for information. (most are in high school)

She went on to tell me, I should carry at all times, even on others property, but in obvious view (meaning surrounding adjacent properties when bringing in my animals) this is against the CA norm so I was pretty ecstatic to meet this charming woman.

I can't wait to talk to her again.
Just wanted to share
