This really troubles me. I can't tell you how much I find this terrifying.
I mean, I always knew and counted on the fact that I could even stake my life on the fact that no matter how bad assed the Gangster types were that were chasing me with guns blazing that I could duck into any Post Office or National park and be safe.
And now they have stripped that away from me.
Woe is me what now shall I do?

Re: So they will now allow guns in Fed properties and parks.
Tue, May 26, 2009 - 12:39 PMWell, I know Costco usually has posted signs that say 'no firearms allowed' somewhere on a wall cluttered with announcements and other papers.
Since they're private property, they can make their own rules regardless even of CCW's.
Setting that aside, this is great news. What are the specifics? open carry in national parks? only ccw? what? -

Yah but how can they enforce it? If they see a gun escort you out?
It's not a statutory crime so the police are not the right option.
That leaves security:
"Hey Fred go throw that guy out he's got a gun."
That'll go down well.

I'd not take a gun in one of those areas till the matter has been ruled on by a few courts. For sure I wouldn't want to be the test case by some over zealous prosecutor -

Re: So they will now allow guns in Fed properties and parks.
Sat, July 4, 2009 - 9:21 PMIn about 9 months the bill will take effect and you will be permitted to carry weapons with a ccw) into national monuments and federal parks. You could already do that in some areas, but not in monuments and places like Yosemite. The news paper accounts were confusing, I think you can only carry CCW if you have a CCW, but otherwise you can carry? Or maybe like some states that allow carry in parks only with a CCW. I know a few cities that do that.

Re: So they will now allow guns in Fed properties and parks.
Wed, August 5, 2009 - 7:48 PMTucson does that in its parks. You can carry if you have a CCW. Some guy had to get his ass arrested to appeal the old ruling. It was damned stupid not to be able to carry in parks. It is really stupid to be prohibited from carrying in a wilderness area. WTF were they smoking when they came up with that. Harder to believe was that it occured during the Reagan years and little was said about it till later. Reagan was a pro gun president. Odd the NRA never sqwaked, least not that I remember.
