compressed bullet

So I pulled the round out of the pipe of my Sigma (or stigma, as Adam would call it) today, and notice the thing is shorter than it usually is. Not sure how I did it, but somehow the projectile has been compressed straight down into the casing. Only time I've seen that happen (so far). Should that thing still be fire-able?

When a bullet is compressed down into the shell like that, it raises the internal pressures substantially. Sometimes it will fire, sometimes it blows up. Better to dispose of the round in a manner that will keep anyone else from using it.

Case compressioncan be dangerous with rounds like the 9mm because it is typically loaded right to the bottom the bullet, or even a lightly compressed load. Close that space and it is REALLLYcompressed.

But take a 357, where most of the case is empty, and compress it down a bit internal pressures will be like a hot 38spcl +P. Try that with a 243 and you get a big BOOM (243 is typically a lightly compressed load...no leftover room in the room.)

I'm trying to imagine how to do that... smash it with a hammer? Throw it in the fireplace? hehehe...Not everyone has access to a bullet-puller.

I handed it back to the manufacturer. And bought 1,000 more to replace it.

What you did to cause that compressed round; chambering the same cartridge repeatedly into your Sigma.

When I get enough of 'em I use a bullet puller and tap them enough for the bullet to almost come out of the case. Then run em through my seating/ crimping die.

Either that or I run them through the Uzi... that thing's bomb proof.
